ABOUT

JSC Russian Railways in cooperation with JSC DOM.RF announces OPEN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION for architectural and urban planning development concept of the Rizhsky freight yard.

The goal of the project is the comprehensive redevelopment of the Rizhsky freight yard and creation of a new urban area on its territory that features the latest architectural and urban planning trends in development of high-quality environments for living, work and leisure.

The new mixed-use development should combine a headquarters office block for Russian Railways, a modern residential complex and other corresponding types of real estate.

Modern global trends in the railway infrastructure development suggest that cities worldwide give priority to develop urban land to the most economically beneficial projects. Logistics and other industrial businesses are relocated to the cities’ outskirts and suburbs, which makes it possible to increase both urban connectivity and accessibility and to provide a friendly and safe environment within cities.

The revitalization of the industrial areas of the Rizhsky freight yard should become a driver for business and social life development, covering not only the site itself, but also the surroundings.

The Competition participants are expected to propose a comprehensive solution for an efficient use of these areas based on international experience and current trends in construction and architecture as well as reflecting Russian Railways’s commitment to the innovation.

It is important for the company to consolidate the main business and administrative matters in a single railway center. It will ensure a new level of digitalization and significantly reduce costs through the introduction of energy efficient technologies. At the same time, this project will create a new comfortable urban environment for residents within the area, which is currently excluded from the social and economic life of the capital

Oleg Belozerov, Chief Executive Officer – Chairman of the Executive Board of Russian Railways

Our aim is to create comfortable environment complying with contemporary requirements to urban development and to review urban territories potential that are currently occupied by railroad infrastructure objects
